What is reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a membrane-technology filtration method that removes many types of large molecules and ions from solutions by applying pressure to the solution when it is on one side of a selective membrane. The result is that the solute is retained on the pressurized side of the membrane and the pure solvent is allowed to pass to the other side. Source: Wikipedia

reverse osmosis filters - lower the ec.

GrowMax Water Reverse Osmosis systems are the best available for the growing and gardening industry today. These units produce pure water and range from 500 liters per day up to 3.000 liters per day, and include features like pressure gauges, flow restrictors, and automatic shut-off valves to ensure your system will maintain optimum performance and reliable service for many years.

Removes up to 95% of all Salts, Heavy Metals, Herbicides and Pesticides, Volatile Organic Contaminants, Nitrates/Nitrites. Also eliminates up to 99% of chlorine and sediments down to 5 microns, immediately!

what is ec?

EC stands for Electrical Conductivity as it relates to the capacity of a liquid (water) to transport electricity.

The measure of EC correlates directly to the amount of total dissolved solids (TDS) in your water.

Typically, dissolved solids found in water generally consist of Mineral Salts; sodium, chlorides, calcium, sulfates, nitrates and many others. Heavy Metals often found in water include; lead, arsenic, manganese, chromium and copper, among others.

The higher the measure of TDS (EC), the more dissolved solids you have in your water.

what is it important to lower your EC for Growing?

Even with the use of a TDS or EC meter, you still don’t know specifically which dissolved solids are actually in your water. You may have unacceptably high amounts of chlorides or sulfates, and/or dangerous levels of heavy metals. You don’t know what`s in YOUR water. To further complicate the situation is the fact that the municipal water supply in your town or city is changing all the time.

Using Low EC Reverse Osmosis Water will eliminate these potentially serious issues in the growing process and will give your plants the best quality water right from the start.

Of equal importance, by lowering the TDS/EC in your growing water you make room for more nutrients to be absorbed by your plants, because dissolved solids are no longer in the way.

There is a maximum amount of EC that your plants can withstand, before it becomes detrimental to them.

It’s also important to note that too high an amount of TDS/EC in your water can result in Nutrient Lock Out, where your plants roots can no longer absorb the nutrients critical for their growth.

hardness of the water

Depending on the concentration of mineral salts dissolved in the water, we will distinguish between soft and hard water. The main difference between what we call soft and hard water is that in the latter there is a high concentration of calcium ions (Ca2) and magnesium (Mg2) dissolved.

Depending on the geographical area in which we are, we will have access to one type of water or another since not all places use the same techniques for water treatment. In addition, widespread rises in temperatures in summer seasons stimulate the proliferation and reproduction of fungi, parasites and microbes, causing chlorine doses in the drinking water network to also be higher during these dates.

Soft water is called those whose measurements do not exceed a range of 70-150ppm
while hard water is those whose range ranges from 320-420ppm.

how can we measure the ec?

There are different types of EC measuring instruments available in the market, with a wide range of prices, all of them valid and functional, depending on the decimals we want you to show us. There are also those that perform different functions, as well as measure pH and temperature (so-called combos) on a constant basis, mandatory for use through the different hydroponic techniques.

measuring units

The conductivity of water is measured within a certain distance, so although the one used in the SI is that of S (Siemens) they are usually expressed as S/cm or mS/cm.

We can also find other units of measurement such as ppm (part per million) and TDS (total dissolved solids). The relationship between conductivity and dissolved solids is given by the following equalities:

2 μS/cm = 1 PPM

1 PPM = 640 TDS

benefits of lowering the ec from water

The goal is to start with a base water as pure as possible, better if it is 000ppm, in order to obtain the following benefits:

  • Know at all times which additives and in what quantities will be added.
  • We will increase the bioavailability of the plant causing greater efficiency of the fertilizers, making them can be absorbed optimally.
  • Protect, maintain and enhance the use of organic fertilizers, microbial life and beneficial microorganisms.
  • If we want to prepare a calcium and magnesium base water with an EC of 0.3-0.4, we will have greater control over the necessary amounts.
  • It allows us to identify in advance the possible symptoms of deficiencies and / or excess nutrients in our plants.
  • It helps us protect the roots by fortifying the immune system against possible pests and diseases.
  • It helps to stabilize pH.
  • Advance collection time and increase production.
  • Get a quality end product.

which is the best growmax water unit for me?

To lower your EC up to 95%, choose either the POWER GROW 500 or MEGA GROW 1000.

Both units eliminate up to 95% of salts and heavy metals and up to 99% of chlorine.

To eliminate up to 100% of all salts from your water, the EC ELIMINATOR 0.0 produces completely TDS FREE WATER.

If you happen to live in an area with low EC water to start, you should still remove the Chlorine and other Volatile Organic Contaminants (VOC’s) from your growing water. Depending on the amount of grow water you need on a daily basis will determine which Growmax Water Filtration System is best for you:

ECO GROW 240 ( up to 60 GPH) ,SUPER GROW 800 (up to 200 GPH) or PRO GROW 2000 (up to 500 GPH).
